We are delighted to have been recognised as one of The Big Issue’s 100 Changemakers for 2026, a list celebrating individuals and organisations across the UK who are driving meaningful social change.
Each year, Big Issue readers nominate people and projects who confront what is “broken, unjust or overlooked” and take action to build something better. The 2026 list spans generations, communities and causes – from young climate advocates to lifelong community organisers, from people challenging inequalities in housing and social security to those strengthening everyday safety nets by supporting families, carers and marginalised groups.
We are so proud to have been included in the Food and Nutrition category for the work we are doing to turn smart data into practical action on health and food inequality.
“HASP helps turn smart data into practical action on health and food inequality. Part of Smart Data Research UK, HASP provides secure access to high-quality data on food, lifestyle and mobility patterns, alongside maps and dashboards that make local challenges easier to understand.”
The Big Issue
The Big Issue also highlighted how our Priority Places for Food Index – which identifies neighbourhoods most at risk of struggling to access affordable, healthy and sustainable food – is helping policymakers and local organisations target support where it’s most needed.
“We are proud to have been named as a Big Issue Changemaker, alongside brilliant individuals and organisations passionate about getting nutritious food to all. The Priority Places for Food Index unlocks the power of data and makes rich insights about neighbourhoods widely available, ensuring that support to access healthy, sustainable food is meaningfully targeted.”
Professor Michelle Morris, Deputy Director of HASP and Priority Places for Food Index Academic Lead
Our approach at HASP is rooted in the wider mission of Smart Data Research UK: unlocking the power of data to improve people’s lives. By providing secure access to high‑quality datasets and turning complex information into accessible, actionable insights, we aim to enable fairer decisions, better services and healthier, more sustainable places.
Our place on the 2026 Changemakers list reflects the growing recognition that better data and better insights are essential to tackling inequalities.
