Ways your organisation can work with us

Test new ideas, methods and techniques through a short-term project before committing to a longer-term programme of work.

Funded by HASP and delivered through the LIDA Data Science Development Programme these projects offer partners the chance to work with a dedicated early career data scientist (supervised by the HASP academic team) on a six-month project that will deliver both academic and commercial/policy insight.

Find out more about the programme here.

HASP have secured funds for several fellowships, which will pay for a member of staff from your organisation to spend time on a research project, in collaboration with the data service.

The intended period of secondment is one day per week for six months, although there is some flexibility.

The focus of the fellowship activity can be agreed on a case-by-case basis, but in principle offer protected time for your staff to gain skills and work in collaboration with HASP data scientists and research fellows.

Outputs from a fellowship might include an academic paper or a data product (e.g. a data dashboard) that provides value-added insight from your datasets.

Long term projects with a PhD

Co-supervision of PhDs is a great way to generate in-depth insight from your data. A PhD can often be aligned with business needs and provides an opportunity for an individual to spend 3+ years on becoming a world leading expert on a given topic. PhD students are motivated and highly capable, and academic supervisors are also heavily invested in the success of the project. A fully funded PhD costs around £93,000, which covers fees and a stipend for living costs. We can also look to support some of the cost of a PhD through scholarships.

In-house Data Science Expertise

We have a team of research data scientists, software engineers, research fellows and a wider network of research professionals who can work with you to undertake specific research projects, or design data products.

There are numerous ways to collaborate and we would expect to produce co-produced outputs that provide insight for your organisation and/or the wider research community.

Training

We are currently in the process of finalising our training provision and will be releasing details shortly.

Expect to see from us:

  • An introduction to HASP data products
  • Safe Researcher Training – a requirement for users of Safeguarded and Secure data
  • Introductory and advanced courses in Python, R and Geographical Information Systems
  • Spatial Analysis for Public Health Researchers

Many of our short courses are Continuous Professional Development (CPD) accredited.

If you are interested in delivering training, we could support you in doing so. This would include providing facilities and advertising the course, as well as administrative support.
