What is the Speeding Dashboard?
The Speeding Dashboard is an interactive tool designed to help researchers, policymakers, and road safety practitioners understand patterns of speed limit adherence across major British cities and regions. Using anonymised GPS trajectory data from goods vehicles, the dashboard highlights where speeding is occurring and supports investigation into the environmental and network characteristics that may contribute to these behaviours.
Rather than focusing solely on driver behaviour, the dashboard recognises that road design, street layout, and the wider built environment can influence how drivers perceive and respond to speed limits. By examining these patterns geographically, the tool helps users identify areas where interventions may improve safety for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
The dashboard currently covers a range of British city regions including London, Greater Manchester, West Midlands, Cardiff, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Newcastle, Cambridge, Oxford, and South Yorkshire. Full GB coverage coming soon.
